Yamas for instagramI wanted a real/relatable book about the Yamas and Niyamas (yoga’s moral codes) so I wrote it! YOGA’S YAMAS and NIYAMAS – 10 Principles for Peace & Purpose is available on Amazon!

(For those of you in LA, I make more money if you buy from me directly and will charge you less – $15.)

The Yamas and Niyamas are yoga’s essential, ethical principles. The Yamas (how to treat  others) and the Niyamas (how to care for yourself) include values such as peace, truth, gratitude, and contentment and make life more manageable and meaningful.

In the book, I explain what each principle is, offer ways to practice it, and include a personal essay about how I overcame something hard by applying yoga’s philosophy’s wisdom. (So you’ll find out about all the ways I messed up, got stuck, or decided to change something. 😬.) These principles have helped me so much, and I hope they help you!

Five Leaves Left – now available as an ebook!

Five Leaves Left

Five Leaves Left

I’m happy to announce that my first book, Five Leaves Left, is now available as an ebook on Smashwords.

Originally published in print by the Antar Press in 2010, the book is a collection of ten short stories that use Nick Drake’s 1969 debut album Five Leaves Left as a launchpad and soon leave their birthplace far behind in an eclectic tour ’round the world.

I’m very proud of this work. Having it published taught me that dreams really can come true if you work hard and ask for people to help make it happen.

Intention Jars Now Availiable!

For the holidays, I didn’t have much money for presents and wanted to gift something that was creative and personal. I knew how powerful it was to take the time to sit and write down what I wanted in life, and because a new year was just around the corner, I had an idea to make intention jars. They were a hit! Every person I gave one to said I should make and sell them because they enjoyed the process so much.

So, I did and I’ve started a business called INTENTbyDESIGN! These jars make special gifts for those you care about or for yourself as an alternative to a vision board (or in addition to). They are great for Christmas or if you want to give a unique, homemade birthday gift. Each jar contains questions about desires, dreams, release, and cultivation. By answering them, the recipient will know his/herself better: the person they are and the one they want to be.

1 decorated, personalized jar
23 handwritten questions on patterned paper, including at least one personalized question

1 sealed wish

How to use:
Empty the jar of its contents.
Open the papers and answer (write) their questions.
Fold them and fill the jar with your intentions.
Seal it and place it somewhere you’ll see it regularly.
Open the jar on your next birthday (or the end of year) and see what’s shifted.

To order a jar, you may contact me directly at or visit my Etsy site, Each jar is custom made for the recipient; prices are $28 (including delivery) for those in the Los Angeles area or $38 with shipping.

theStations is Complete!

STATION FOURTEEN: Cavale is the one to realize her own dream; she is her savior.

STATION FOURTEEN: Cavale is the one to realize her own dream; she is her savior.

…well kinda. I’ve completed, where you’ll find Sam Shepard’s play Cowboy Mouth broken into 14 digestible episodes (a video and prayer for each). I’ve been posting one station a month, and now they are all up for you to nibble on or binge watch in full.

I’m calling them “stations” because I’ve borrowed the Catholic storytelling form of the Stations of the Cross, which tells the story of Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection via 14 art pieces. Around Lent, Catholics walk these 14 pieces and reflect on Jesus’ journey. I’m not Catholic, and I’m not comparing my work to the divine, but I’ve always loved this idea of physically traveling through story and I thought it would be an interesting way to share theater. I also wanted to experiment with making theater accessible at any time on any kind of device.

I’ll be back around Lent, to launch a YouTube campaign of the project, where I’ll post one station a day on a channel. I hope you’ll follow it and help me share it as it unfolds. I need your help doing so! For now, please log on to the project’s website and experience a play I love, which is all about realizing your own dreams.

Sixteen is available as an ebook!

Sixteen Cover Smashbooksresize

I’ve released an ebook called Sixteen. Download it for free here!

What’s it like to lose your father at 16 or fall for a man 16 years your senior? Be stuck in a small town for too long or have to leave a place after too little? Lose your innocence to sin or gain strength through weakness? Sixteen brings together 16 vignettes of experiences in love and loss. Part fiction, part not, the anthology collects the truths of what it means to love and lose, want and wonder…how we are never the same once everything changes.

Dream Confessional at Burning Man

Dream Confessional

dream confessional at Burning Man

At Burning Man, I built a Dream Confessional with Nikolai Giefer. In the deep playa, he routed people to come talk to me and I sat with over one hundred people from all over the world. I asked each of them to close their eyes, think of their greatest hope or dream, and when they felt they really had it, to open their eyes and write this hope or dream on a card. Then, we spoke about the things that were in their hearts: fears, joys, weaknesses, aspirations, peace for countries in conflict, all kinds of things. I would ask each person what was in their way of realizing their dream, how they could shift things in their life to make what they wanted possible. Many times, they were the one in their own way. What struck me was that even though each person had something different to say, it was all rooted in humanity, that even though each one of us is so different, we are so much the same.

IMG_8741I took all the cards home with me and they now sit in a jar on my desk (complete with playa dust!) Every now and then, I will read the cards and think of the moments I shared with these people, send each of them a little love and hope that they are closer to these hopes and dreams. This project was a dream for me and exceeded all my expectations. #burningman

the Stations

I am proud to present my latest project: theStations,

For years, theater has brought us together using characters and plot to unmask how we think and feel about our own lives. But the form needs to evolve with its audience. theStations is an experiment, an electronic experience of the play Cowboy Mouth, written by Sam Shepard and Patti Smith in 1971.

The play is about a girl who thinks rock ‘n roll is the new way to connect and console people like religion once had. So she kidnaps a guy to make him into a rock ‘n roll savior, but then realizes it is she who must realize her own dream.

the Stations borrows the ritual of The Stations of the Cross, 14 artistic depictions of Jesus’ journey to crucifixion, for reflection on each part of the play. A station is posted monthly, using original imagery, music, and prayer and is accessible on any device at any time.
